About Department of Physics
Welcome to the Department of Physics. It was established in 1948. Ours is one of the very old PG departments in SPPU. Our PG course – which is grant in aid – started in 1974. The research center was started in 2013 and is recognised by SPPU. The total number of teachers is 13 and the number of non-teaching staff members is 4. Out of the 13 teaching members, One is professor, 7 are associate professors and 5 are assistant professors. The number of Ph.D. holders is 5 while the no. of teachers who have completed M.Phil. is 4. There are two research guides and 4 students are working under them. The department runs research activities both in experimental as well as theoretical physics. Our research center has received handsome research funding – to the tune of Rs. 78 lakhs – from various funding agencies like SPPU, UGC, DST and CSIR. The department also conducts regular workshops for school students on hands-on-activities. This is a humble attempt to take science to the masses. One of the teachers is actively engaged in science popularisation by writing articles/books and by delivering lectures.
