About Department of Psychology

Department of Psychology established in this college at Under Graduate level since 1981 and thereafter psychology being taught at special level. Since the inception of this course many meritorious students have studied in the department and they scored with flying colors at university level. Earlier sincere academicians and expert professors trained the students and they too were great stalwarts with their academic and professional experience.

Since 2008 Post Graduate (non -grant) course was started after the huge demand of our B.A. students. Our college is affiliated with S.P. University of Pune and many of department students received merit ranks at  B.A.& M.A. levels. Till now more than 10 students were in first 10 ranks of SPPU at M.A. level. In 2015 Ms. Prachi Pathak attained University gold medal in the faculty of mental, moral & social Sciences and she has  also obtained university medal for the subject Psychology at first time in the history of the department. In further years Piyushee Mukerjee, Anushka Saraf also distinguished & attained gold medal of SPPU for master’s degree and many other students at undergraduate levels.

Many of the present faculty members are the alumnus of this same college. Some of our past students are working at  renowned institutes in India and abroad too. To name a few, AIIMS New Delhi, Fravashi International Academy,  MUHS, HSG Manavta Cancer Centre, Wisdom High School, MPA and many more.

This year in  April 2024 its 14^th  event as  Ankur  fest an yearly event was celebrated & earlier too without any gap during covid days celebrated with grand involvement of  both U.G. & P.G. students as  the best practice of the department. This event is organized  every year since 2009, covering various psychological issues, themes in a form of posters, guest lectures, quiz competitions, patha natya  and eminent persons were  engaging students in workshop. Since 2018 as a part of social outreach our department is celebrating World Mental Health Day on every 10^th October & encouraging our students to create awareness  about mental health amongst us & community.   Many of our post graduate students  are participating in Avishkar research competition and attending and presenting research papers at national and state level competition.

Every year M.A.II students complete five days Residential Course on Basic skills in Counseling  at  Christian Counseling Center (C.C.C.), Vellore, Tamil Nadu, (since 2011 to 2017) total 120 students have completed the course . As a part of regular practical training these students complete their internship in psychiatrists’ clinics, special schools,  remedial education centres  & civil hospitals and get acquainted oneself with practical & experiential learning in clinical psychology.

The department faculty has attained BOS and subject expert position at  SPPU level  with active participation in all examination work , syllabus framing. Many dignitaries and academicians have visited the department for workshop, seminars, and guest lectures. Our faculty members always support and encourage students for  attaining various seminars, conferences and enhance their research skills with paper presentations & research publications.

In this   academic year under MA-1 NEP course one innovative activity  OJT  ( on the job training) is started & its real pleasure to share that MOUs were signed with different institutions and organizations. All  MA first year students  hone their skills with total involvement at the job and put their toes on  with their knowledge for future application. Our under graduate students are also not far behind and they did volunteer work at child Welfare Committee Cell throughout 2 academic years.

 

At a nutshell Department of Psychology  is a very promising & active department  of this campus with a right combination of inquisitive, extraordinary students & encouraging and inspiring  faculties.
