About Department of Chemistry
DST-FIST sponsored Department
Established in 1948. The department instituted M.Sc in Organic Chemistry in 1969 , Analytical Chemistry in 2009 and Research centre in 1973.
Department Library : The Departmental library is with 400 books and 13 research journals and exclusive internet facility for the chemistry students is a special feature of the department.
Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) : The central instrumentation facility equipped with sophisticated instruments like UV-DRS, FT-IR and HPLC is housed in the department.
Research : 29 student have completed their Ph.D. from the department.5 major and 11 minor research projects have been completed by the teaching faculty.3 are ongoing projects. More than 100 research paper have been published by the teaching faculty in various national and international journals.
MOU: The department has entered into a MOU with E. I. du Pont de Nemours and company for the Material transfer and Biological Testing.
Linkages : The department has linkages with IIT (Mumbai), NCL, ISSER, SPPU, SAIF (Punjab University, Chandigarh), ICT (Mumbai) and Maximum students get placement in industry like Glaxo, Lupin, Pidilite, Delta Fino Chem, Mylan, Mega Fine
Activities for the Students : The department conducts the various activities for the students like Inter collegiate Chemquiz competition for UG and PG student, Concept test, Chemiad, Poster competition, seminar, workshop, lecture competition, Project, Industrial tours etc so as to develop skills, critical thinking , analytical thinking and also to acquire basic skill required to carry out independent research.
Tutor Ward System : Department conducts Yoga Workshops for the students for their health and holistic development and has a regular Tutor-Ward system where the teacher work as mentor and counsel the students.
Best Teacher Awardee of the Department :
- Dr.R.S.Varkhede has received the Best Teacher Award by Sarvajanic Vachanalaya Nashik in September 2017.
- Dr.A.V.Borhade has received the Best Teacher Award by Sarvajanic Vachanalaya Nashik in September 2018 and the Best Teacher Award by Savitribai Phule Pune University in 2015.
- Dr.V.D.Bobade has received the prestigious Prof. Narsimhan Endoment Award for his research activity by Savitribai Phule Pune University in 2013.
